Andrzej Wróblewski, "Kolejka wciąż trwa", 1956, óleo sobre lienzo, 140 x 200 cm

The UNESCO Chair on Intercultural Dialogue began its activities in August 2014 in order to contribute to the study of relations between the particular and the universal from the Human and Social Sciences point of view, using what we call Universal Analogous. They are a plausible alternative between the contemporary dilemmas between the particularism of the ambivalent and the universalism of the unequivocal. This type of universals is characterized by the search of a meeting point between different points of view, to achieve agreements of certain stability through interculturality.

We live in a world principally characterized by cultural diversity. However, it often happens that this diversity is degraded or restrained to maintain an exclusive hegemonic conception. La Universidad Nacional de Colombia constitutes a microcosm where as much the different cultural expressions of daily life's forms as the esthetic manifestations testifying of the feeling associated to identity claims of groups are represented.

This issue about diversity was the subject of studies at international level, especially in The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) which obtained the approval of the International Convention on Protection and the Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions during the 2005 General Assembly. This Convention represents the framework of public policy definition including in a committed way the protection of diversity expressions.

The Colombian State approved the content of this Convention in 2013. It is actually a part of the normative framework implying State's obligations to the international community. From the civil society point of view, increasing the participative democracy of population is important in order to protect and promote cultural diversity.

These days, we have been witnessing an extreme polarization in the way of understanding human condition. The criticism of the postmodern thinking to the universal values, conduces us to a dangerous relativism in which it is presumed that anything can go and that the particular has a privilege. The effect of this trend has been especially sensitive in the Human and Social Sciences in which the formation of new professionals registers the ethereal clout of particularism. The study of the poetic expressions constitutes a good base to show how from the esthetic codes and practices the universal reconciled is said. In addition, it is required to advance in a similar path in matters of specialized knowledge about men and society in the actuality, in a way in which the new professionals of the Human and Social Sciences can interact with the development organizations at a national and international level towards a contribution in an effective way in the preservation of the universal values; that starts a dialogue with the particular and recognizes the difference of cultures, in an environment of searching the interculturality.

• Base a new pact of sense between Humanity and Nature on the universal analogous.

• Tend to the emancipation of the subjects against the diverse forms of oppression and the searching of the recognition of new rights from the citizenship extended to the recognition of the difference (cultural citizenship).

• Contribute to define the state of the Intercultural Dialogue issue in the actuality.

• Present the contribution of the universal analogous as a possibility to get out of the discussion between the particularism and the universalism.

• Contribute to the education and orientation of new professionals in Human and Social Sciences with a proposal based on the importance of the universal reconciled or analogous.
